Home Profile History

In 1947 Alfred Talke founded his transport company with just a single truck based in Huerth, a town near Cologne, Germany. The company quickly developed into a leading Logistic Service Provider (LSP) to the European chemical industry. A variety of factors distinguish the company since its early days: its extraordinary efforts in customer service and the provision of competitive, high quality services, in addition to the development of innovative solutions.

The company presently has more than 1.650 employees and dedicated contractors in a network of locations across Europe, Middle East and Asia.

TALKE played a pioneer role in 1989 when being entrusted with the first major on-site logistics outsourcing project in Europe. A new polypropylene plant in Belgium, now known as Borealis Kallo, outsourced the design, construction and operations of its entire logistics area to TALKE. The plant came on stream in 1990 and was the first of its kind in the petrochemical industry.

TALKE also operates several other integrated on-site facilities in Europe for clients such as LyondellBasell, BASF, Bayer, DOW Chemical and ExxonMobil. These activities are complemented by a network of multi-user facilities, owned and operated by TALKE in strategically well placed locations close to the industry.

With the beginning of the new millennium, TALKE decided to expand its activities beyond the present borders of Central and Eastern Europe. A thorough analysis of the developments of the customer base showed that the Middle East would be the petrochemicals production powerhouse in the coming decade. TALKE took the decision to develop activities in the region.

Having successfully started operations in various GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries, TALKE expanded to the Far East with a strong focus on China, in order to complement the supply chain network of the group.

In the early 1960’s, Al-Jabr ancestry launched a business in the field of industrial contracting, starting with a refinery in Al-Khafji. Steady development enabled the company to diversify its services, covering various aspects of the Saudi market. The success of this diversification resulted in 1988 in the formation of the Azmeel group which made it one of the biggest construction groups in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom.

Azmeel tows the foot-prints of its success in the philosophy to equip itself with distinguished resources and competency. We have a long track record since the early sixties in various fields with responsible business conduct. We are present all over the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through 10 offices in major cities, as well as in Egypt and in neighbouring Gulf countries such as Qatar. This family-run entrepreneurial group provided an ideal fit and the joint-venture company ALJABR-TALKE was born.

Modern logistics and outsourcing in particular were concepts that took some time to introduce but the efforts were rewarded in 2003 when ALJABR-TALKE was awarded the first integrated outsourcing operation in the region. Saudi Polyolefins Company, a joint venture between Basell and Tasnee, was constructing a new plant entailing Propane Dehydrogenation and a 450,000 ton per year polypropylene unit in Al-Jubail, Saudi-Arabia. Operations in Jubail, together with the enormous expansion of activities in the region have assisted ALJABR-TALKE in expanding and introducing modern logistics concepts to the market. In a short period enormous interest was shown by both existing and new regional producers and the concept of outsourcing on-site logistics became a new trend in the region.

As the company continued to grow and the first multi-user site in Saudi Arabia was under construction, ALJABR-TALKE joined forces with SISCO in order to strengthen the company. The experience and capabilities of the partners brought together a relationship which is enhanced by the mutual philosophy of successful business based round a family run organisation.
